“No I have never heard of Jesus. Who is he?.”

-Sapuan Man at a Bus Stop

WHO ARE THE SAPUAN?

The Sapuan language is classified as Mon-Khmer, which originates from Cambodia. They are considered to be one of the least developed peoples in Southern Laos. They are devoted Animists who worship spirits and have many fears, superstitions, and ceremonies like animal sacrifice.

HOW MANY FOLLOW JESUS?

The Sapuan of Laos have lived in relative isolation for centuries. There are about a dozen believers that were led to faith by Oy church planters. Of the total Sapuan population, only 0.2 percent follow Jesus. They are considered to be a Frontier People Group.

WHERE DO THEY LIVE?

About 6,100 Sapuan live in a few remote villages in Southern Laos. Their villages are often affected by flooding and natural disasters. This has opened the door for near-culture Christians, like the Oy, to show love through relief efforts and share the Gospel with the Sapuan.
