“God wants me to worship Him in my language!”
-Salang Oral Bible Translator
WHO ARE THE SALANG (AREM)?
The Salang (Arem) are a collection of small hunter-gatherer tribes considered to be one of the least developed and remote peoples in Laos. They are sometimes known as the "Yellow Leaf" for building their huts with banana leaves and moving when the leaves turn yellow due to superstition. They are devoted Animists who worship spirits and have many fears, alters, and ceremonies, like animal sacrifice.
HOW MANY FOLLOW JESUS?
The Salang (Arem) of Laos have lived in relative isolation for centuries. Most have never heard of Jesus - but that has changed. In 2019, the first Salang church was established by So church planters. There are now over 100 Salang believers in one village. Of the total Baw population, now 6.6 percent follow Jesus. They were once a Frontier People Group.
WHERE DO THEY LIVE?
Less than 1,500 Salang people live in 2-3 extremely remote villages in Central Laos. Some villages are only accessible by motorbike or boat. The Salang villages are mixed with several tribes, but nearby, across the river are the So people. The So believers have taken the Gospel to the Salang.
