“I will not deny Jesus, he transformed my life.”
-Baw Martyr for Jesus
WHO ARE THE BAW (BO)?
The Baw (Bo) people are located in Central Laos and speak a language related to Tai-Lao. They are subsistence farmers and most live below the poverty line. They are devoted Animists who worship ancestors and spirits. They have many fears, superstitions and ceremonies to appease the spirits.
HOW MANY FOLLOW JESUS?
The Baw of Laos have lived in relative isolation for centuries. Most have never heard of Jesus - but that is beginning to change. In 2008, there were zero Baw churches. As of 2024, there are now over 180 Baw believers located in 4-5 churches. Of the total Baw population, 3.5 percent are now following Jesus. They were once classified as a Frontier People Group.
WHERE DO THEY LIVE?
More than 5,400 Baw are spread throughout the valleys and remote villages of Central Laos. Some villages are only accessible by motorbike. The Baw Christians are heavily persecuted - sometimes by their own family members or by local governing authorities. They take many risks in following Jesus and some Baw believers have paid the ultimate price for making disciples.
